Safe and Happy Diwali!

With the festival of lights round the corner that calls in for the gala celebration in a country as diverse as ours, the current buzz word hovering over the minds of all the think tanks and environment enthusiasts is Air Pollution!

On one hand people cannot be stopped from bursting crackers because it will affect their traditions, customs and religious believes. While on the other hand, our future is getting closer to be choked to death due to the noxious air. Just a few months back, products were banned from the market due to the presence of certain toxic materials which were known to be harmful to us humans but who would account for the number of problems that we face on a much larger scale each year after the jolly good days of Diwali?
These problems include:
·         Air pollution
·         Noise pollution
·         Health problems
·         Child labour
·         Occupational hazards
·         Problems for the animals, etc.

Still, one can’t stop it because “crackers burst on Diwali is to celebrate the victory of good over evil” or rather evil destroying the good to be precise?
It’s high time that we are not forced by someone else but to think and do things, which is for our good to save our own future.

So, think twice before you step out to burn your own hard earned money - “Which sounds better? Crying the next day over pollution and climate change issues or the happiness of enjoying and spending time with your loved ones over some delicious delicacies?” We choose the latter as a promise to our only home to make her not suffer for what one calls, celebrations!
This Diwali, #SayNoToCrackers, spend time with your loved ones, donate some goodies to the underprivileged people make them smile and celebrate the victory of good over evil in the true sense.

P.S – Think twice not only this Diwali but also on other days like victory in a cricket match, the big fat weddings, etc.

#StayBlessed

Our First Post

On the 44th anniversary of World Wetland Day, we Environ India begin our journey of spreading awareness about various environmental problems, discuss about the issues and factors related to environment and hope to help our mother Earth become a better place to survive.

With the prelude of “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”, with a vision of having a cleaner country, the question still persist “Are we doing enough?” or this would too go down the drain like any other visionary projects.

We are here not only to talk about the problems but to do our bit in solving them. We are here to contribute in protecting our environment like we protect our loved ones. We are here to share this precious gift with our future generation. This is a step towards a cleaner and greener environment, a step towards a pollution free surrounding and a step towards Sustainable Development.

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed”

-        Mahatma Gandhi

E-waste collection drive!

Nowadays, everyone is tech-savvy. With the launch of a new electronic product which is very frequent nowadays, we rush to the nearest stores to get one or just sit at home in front of another electronic product to book one. Our lives revolve around all sorts of electronic products. We wake up in the morning, first thing we do is, grab the phone, to check the time even if there is a clock hanging right in front of us. Reading newspaper has become old fashioned, as there are apps available which serves the purpose. We have now entered the world where there are 4 television sets in one house, 2 phones for every single person. In addition to this there are so many other electronic items we use daily like music players, tablets, laptops and PCs and many many more. But do we know, what is the price we pay for such “development”?
In India, tonnes of electronics are disposed off every day and tonnes are shipped from the West to be used and disposed off leading to heaps of electronics in the landfills, exposing the people and the environment to harmful chemicals. 70% of the parts of such electronic wastes (e-wastes) are recyclable. However, these are given in the hands of poor labours, who don’t have any technological knowhow about the art of dismantling and handling the wastes. This becomes harmful for those labours and people around.
Lack of proper disposal and recycling, along with the overgrowing production of new electronic products ultimately resulting in e-waste has led to a serious concern for the environment as well as the people working in this sector.
Chintan Environment and Research and Action Group, an NGO based in New Delhi, is a sole collector of e-waste in the social sector authorized by DPCC (Delhi Pollution Control Committee). The organization works on recycling of the e-wastes and safe disposal of non-functional e-wastes. Also they help the people in this sector in various manners.
We, volunteered for them to organize a successful week long e-waste collection drive at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Dwarka, New Delhi. Thank you everyone who contributed and supported us.

Environment Day- Consume with Care!!!

"Although individual decisions may seem small in the face of global threats and trends, when billions of people join forces in common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference."
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon

5th June, every year, we celebrate World Environment Day. It is an initiative of United Nations for creating awareness about environment. The theme this year is “Seven billion dreams. One Planet. Consume with care.”
We, the seven billions, have this attitude that Earth is here for our exploitation. But, the truth is, we are exploiting the resources more than our planet can provide. According to recent studies, we will need three Earths by 2050, to sustain our ways of living and consumption.

It’s high time for everyone to realize their responsibility and join together to make the change- by doing more and better with less for a sustainable future.

A very Happy Environment Day!!! Be the Change… Consume with care… Save our Planet!!!

Happy 45th Earth Day !!!

April 22nd , every year marks the anniversary of a movement. A movement that inbred in the 1970s, in the wake of awareness amongst people, about the planet that supports them and is going to support their coming generation selflessly for perpetuity. Nonetheless this service that may seem to be for eternity, might soon become limited in near future.

It was the Earth Day 1990, which paved the way for the United Nations Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in the year 1992.

Earth Day is surely something to celebrate and to remind us to be grateful to Mother Earth, but its more about doing what we can to revive it. We are humans, we do need to remind ourselves to be grateful to everything that's endowing us, but that's fine as long as we put our due effort in returning the favor.  Right ? That makes us think, act and change.

It's a day to rekindle public commitment towards a better and a healthier future. A future that harbors every human to have the conscience to love and respect the nature. A future which reflects the backdrop of our efforts taken today.
So, let's make it possible. Let's put the demon inside us to it's coffin and wake up to our conscience, because Earth is way above religion, backgrounds and nationalities. Because nature has an immense amount of faith on us.

The possibilities of doing "something" are endless . So, make a difference, change a habit, plant a tree, always carry a bag to go shopping, switch off lights, close a flowing tap, organize an event, volunteer for an NGO, talk to the authorities, think innovative, join the Earth Day Network, teach a kid about the above said things, do your bit for Earth, have fun, meet new people, spread the word, think big, make it happen.
You needn't depend on April 22nd. Every day is Earth Day. Nature never ceases to serve us, so why should we ?
We can't eat money after all the trees are cut. To build a better future that we need to, we must commit to protect our environment throughout our lifetime.

we are contributing, for better or for worse ??

Everyday, wherever we go, including our college campus, we will find someone or the other (although the number is galore we know) throwing their empty plastic cup of tea , coffee or just anything wherever they feel like, which we can conveniently say is not the dustbin for sure.
BUT how many times have we stopped them ? How many times we have just cursed a little more our Nation's people and their irresponsible behavior and ignored it ?
THE ANSWER IS PROBABLY NONE TO ALWAYS , AS WE SHAMEFULLY HAVE TO ACCEPT.
The problem is,  well  , people do not see the bigger picture , which is the inception all the " safai abhiyans"
That picture is of "OUR POOR ENVIRONMENT" . Yes poor I call it as we have lead it to become.
So why don't we become a little more thoughtful , a little more thankful to our nature and care enough that we won't even need the” safai abhiyans”. This will also help us to regain some of our lost prestige in the eyes of the whole world and also very importantly this will be the best way to thank our Mother Nature.
Because if our new CM of Delhi became the change he wanted to see in the world so can we :-) :-)
